Final Stats Game 1
Final Stats Game 2

The Siena baseball team swept a league doubleheader from Niagara Sunday, running its win streak to eight games. The Saints won the opener 3-1 behind sophomore Matt Gage, and held on for a 12-11 win in the second game.

The Saints (16-21, 8-3) now stand alone in third place in the MAAC, and they've won seven straight league road games. They will try for the three-game sweep Monday at 1:15.

Junior Neil Fryer equaled Siena's career record with his 16th career save in the second game, joining Mark Smith '01. Fryer has seven of those saves this season

Siena didn't trail in either game, but both came down to the wire.

Gage turned in a stellar performance in the opener. He pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and one unearned run with seven strikeouts.

Andres Ortiz singled and scored the game's first run in the fourth, John Rooney drove home the second with a two-out RBI single in the sixth, and after Niagara (12-26, 7-7) answered with a run, Javier Garcia singled and came around to score the final run of the game in the seventh.

Mike Fish was the only player from either team to post a multi-hit game in the nine-inning opener. The second game had a lot more action, with the two teams combined for 23 runs and 28 hits in the seven-inning nightcap.

The Saints held an 8-1 lead before Niagara struck for five runs in the bottom of the fourth of game two to chase Justin Brantley from the game. Siena pushed the lead to 11-6 with three runs in the sixth, but Niagara scored twice in the sixth and three times in the seventh, making the run the Saints scored in the top of the seventh critical.

Fish was one of five Saints with multi-hit games in the second game. He was joined by Vincent Citro, John Rooney, Nick Wolyniec and Tyler Martis. Fish, Rooney and Brian Fay each scored three runs. Rooney and Wolyniec drove in a pair.

Fryer entered with two on and nobody out in the seventh, and although he allowed three runs to score, he got the job done when it mattered to close out the sweep and claim a share of the record.
