Nov. 20, 2014 Final Stats
Siena hit .324 for the match in a dominant sweep (25-20, 25-20, 25-14) of Canisius Thursday night in the MAAC Quarterfinals at the HP Field House in Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The Saints advance to face No. 3 seed Manhattan in a nationally-broadcast semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday night on ESPN3.
Rachel Stoklosa and Sonja Vasovic each had 11 kills for the Saints and Meghann Wright added 10. Siena controlled all statistical categories and was rarely threatened after splitting the season-series with the Griffs. It was the seventh straight win for the Saints.
Katlyn Tyler led all players with 12 kills for Canisius.
Bobbi Lin Kalama posted a match-high 19 digs for Siena. She had match-high digs in 15 of the Saints' 18 MAAC regular-season matches this season.
Jacqueline Skeen had a strong performance in the middle, finishing six of her nine swings and adding seven blocks. Christina Monroe had six kills as well in the middle, continuing her solid play of late.
Kiara Pierre added four service aces and Haley Howell had 36 assists, seven digs and two aces. It was another complete effort for a Siena team that has emerged as the most balanced in the MAAC over the last month of the season.
The Saints were only seriously threatened in the second set when they trailed 16-13 before scoring five straight points to take the lead for good. Pierre had back-to-back aces to push the lead to 22-19 and Wright followed with consecutive kills to put the set away.
Siena advances to meet Manhattan which survived a five-set battle with No. 6 seed Niagara earlier in the day. The Saints swept the Jaspers this season, winning in straight sets in Riverdale, before posting an exciting five-set home win. Manhattan has won six straight since that loss at Siena on November 1, including victories over top-seed Marist (3-0) and defending champ Fairfield (3-2).
The Saints improved to 13-1 all-time as the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Championships. They have reached the finals all six years they have been seeded second. If they defeat Manhattan, they'll face the winner of No. 1 Marist vs. No. 4 Fairfield with an NCAA bid at stake Saturday at 2 p.m.
