Nov. 6, 2015 LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. – Siena Soccer junior captain Danilo Markovic and junior striker Junior Rosero were named Second Team All-MAAC selections at the conference's awards banquet. Sophomore goalkeeper Gianni Carillo was also tabbed a MAAC All-Rookie Team honoree.
A Preseason All-MAAC selection and native of Queens, N.Y., Markovic has started all 20 matches at center back this fall. He scored the game-winning goal in the Saints' regular season victory at Marist, and has added a pair of assists for four points. Defensively, the center back has anchored a Siena back line which has registered seven shutouts.
The Saints' leading scorer, Rosero entered play today ranked tied for sixth in the MAAC in scoring (16) and tied for fifth in goals (six). Named the Wilson MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7, the West Islip, N.Y. product also paces the Saints in both shots (49) and game-winning goals (two).
Competing in his first collegiate season, Carillo has posted a 7-3-1 record as the Saints' starting goalkeeper. The Pine Bush, N.Y. native leads the MAAC in save percentage (.836) and ranks second in goals against average (0.78) and tied for third in shutouts (six). He was named both the MAAC and ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 26.
Additionally, ten Saints received MAAC All-Academic Team recognition reserved for student athletes who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher and who have reached at least sophomore standing academically. Siena's honorees were seniors Matt Needham, Matt O'Brien and Nils Weddig, juniors David Itoafa, Senan Lonergan, Chip Sherman and Ryan Vyskocil and sophomores Tommaso Centemero, Kamil Pruszko and Milorad Sobot.
Unbeaten in their last five matches, the sixth seeded Saints face No. 2 seed Rider in the MAAC Semifinals Sunday at 2 p.m. at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex on ESPN3.
