Oct. 15, 2016 The Siena men's and women's cross country programs continued to dominate on the course. The women finished second while the men finished third as a team at the UAlbany Invitational. Siena women finished second with 65 points, just three points behind UAlbany who came in first with 62 points. The men came in third behind UAlbany who finished with 18 points and Manhattan who scored 55.
"I am really impressed with our women's performance today," said head coach John Kenworthy. "We put 10 girls in front of our 5th from last year, went 1-2-3 on the Siena All-Time List in the 5K and gave ourselves a really good chance to win right from the gun. I'm excited for the next two weeks as we put the finishing touches on our MAAC preparation."
The women were led by sophomore Sarah Forman who cruised to a fifth place finish overall with a personal record time of 17:58.5. She was followed closely by senior Shannon Bauer who came in sixth with a personal record of 17:58.7. Forman and Bauer are now the first two Siena student athletes who have finished a 5K in under 18 minutes. They now sit in first and second on the All-Time Siena list. Kelly Pasko was the third for Siena as she paced in with a personal record of 18:11.5. Pasko is now third on the Siena All-Time list with her time.
Dominica Bleichert continued the personal record trend for Siena with a time of 18:40.5. Freshman Anya Schmitt closed out the scoring for the Saints as she crossed the finish line 1t 18:51.7.
"Our men didn't have the race we were looking for today, but I was pleased with their effort on the course and the way they handled a subpar day" Kenworthy stated. "We have two weeks to get everyone feeling good and ready to put their best races together in Florida. I think the fire has been lit inside of this group now."
All five scoring men finished in under 26 minutes. Senior Nick Cornine paced the men with a seventh overall finish with his time of 25:34.8. Freshman Evans Kibet wasn't too far behind as he crossed at 25:37.3. Paolo Fiore came through at 25:46.4 for the Saints.
Andrew Canavan and Shaun van Buskirk came through one behind the other at respective times of 25:52.8 and 25:55.1 to round out the scoring the Siena.
