The Siena Cross Country teams had a strong showing at the Nassaney Invitational on Saturday. The men finished in third, while the woman came in fifth. Sarah Forman repeated as the winner of the women's race.
"I'm really excited with the way our women have started this season," said head coach John Kenworthy. "This week was our first time lining up with some competitive expectations and so many of our women delivered great early season performances that we can get excited about building on. The mix of freshman contributing and veterans stepping up to a new level is a welcomed sight."
Just like last week, Sarah Forman not only led the Saints, but led all of the females. She took her second first place finish in just the second race of the early season. Forman set a personal best 5k time with her 18:09.0 finish which also now stands as the fastest 5k time for a Saint besting Shannon Bauer's time by just .9 seconds. Freshman Anya Schmitt was the second female to come in as she set a personal record of her own with a time of 18:45.0.
Add on another personal record as Kelly Pasko came in at 18:56 for the Saints. Freshman Carolyn Pellegrini and senior Ursula Svoboda rounded out the Saints points. Pellegrini finished in 19:20, while Svoboda finished in 20:02.
The top four Saints on the men's side are freshman. Evans Kibet came in third in the men's 8k. In just his first collegiate race, Kibet came through the finish line at 25:54. Michael Rautter and Michael Stoker competed in an 8k in cross country for the first time. Rautter finished in 26:31 while Stoker came through in 27:09.
Grant Norton followed in Rautter and Stoker's footsteps as he also competed in the 8k for the first time and crossed the finished line with a time of 27:29 to be the fourth for Siena. Senior, Bryant Hatala rounded out the men's points with his 27:44 finish.
The Saints will put their singlets back on Saturday, Sept. 16th when they travel to Pennington, New Jersey for the Rider Invitational at Rosedale Park. The races begin at 5 p.m.
