LOUDONVILLE – The Siena Men's Lacrosse Team is gearing up for a new era, with
Liam Gleason taking the helm for his first season in Green and Gold. On Thursday, the program announced their 2019 schedule, which includes 13 games, seven of which will come at home in Loudonville.
"We've had a great fall, and the team has made great progress," said Gleason. "With this schedule, I can't wait to see what this team can do."
The Saints will begin their season with three preseason exhibitions, with a round robin coming at Stony Brook where they will face the hosts and Harvard in back-to-back games. Before things begin to count, Siena will renew a crosstown rivalry and square off with UAlbany in an exhibition on Feb. 9.
The opening game for Siena will come on Feb. 16, as they will take on Hobart at home on Siena Turf Field at 1 p.m before hitting the road for the first time on Feb. 23 to take on the UMass Lowell Riverhawks.
Siena's premier game comes on Apr. 9, as the Saints travel to Princeton, who recently have been ranked as one of the top 15 teams in the country. According to US Lacrosse Magazine, the Tigers will begin the season with a 21
st overall ranking in the country.
On Mar. 5, Siena will face Fairfield, who does not play in the MAAC for men's lacrosse, and will be facing them for the first time since 1999. Siena dropped the last meeting 13-7 that season.
The Saints then begin a three-game home stand, which will be their longest of the season from Mar. 9 to Mar. 16. The Green and Gold will face Big East member St. John's on Mar. 9, St. Bonaventure on Mar. 12, and Manhattan on Mar. 16. St. Bonaventure is a first year men's program in lacrosse, and is also the first conference game for Siena as the Bonnies have joined to play in the MAAC.
"Our conference gets a team stronger with the addition of St. Bonaventure," added Gleason. "I am excited to compete both in the MAAC this season, as well as face some great national talent outside our conference as well."
Siena's remaining conference games will come against Canisius, Quinnipiac, Marist, Detroit Mercy, and Monmouth. Their other non-conference matchup will come against NJIT.
The MAAC Tournament is being held on May 2 and 6, with the semifinal and final games consisting of a combination of the top four teams from the regular season. The tournament host is to be determined.
