'Universally Loved': Lacrosse Community Mourns the Death of Siena Coach Liam Gleason

By: Matt Kinnear, Inside Lacrosse

Liam Gleason, Siena's beloved young coach, father of three and a stalwart figure for lacrosse in the Capital Region, has died.

Gleason suffered a fall Sunday at his home and was hospitalized before his passing Wednesday. He celebrated his 41st birthday last week.

"A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding," Siena President Chuck Seifert, Ph.D, said in a news release. "It's hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason's life."

Gleason is survived by his wife, Jaclyn, a former UAlbany soccer player. They have three kids: Kennedy, Penn and Tate. He is also survived by his parents, Kevin and Susan, his brother, Brendan (Allie), and their extended families.

It's a tragedy that sends shockwaves through the lacrosse world. Gleason, standing a broad 6-foot-5, had a personality that matched his stature. His loss leaves an even bigger void in the lacrosse community, where he was respected by all and touched the lives of hundreds of young athletes over his career.
