LOUDONVILLE, NY – New Siena Men's Basketball Head Coach
Gerry McNamara has announced the ninth official scholarship addition to his first Siena roster. Gavin Doty, a 6-5, 180-pound guard from Fulton, New York, will enroll at Siena College as an incoming freshman this fall.
"Gavin has incredible potential," said McNamara. "He is a big-time athlete that makes winning plays. His talent is obvious, but he plays with a relentless motor on both ends, and values winning above everything. He lays it on the line every time he steps on the floor. I'm really excited about Gavin!"
Doty matriculates to Siena after returning to his native Fulton for his senior season, where he earned Class AA Third Team All-State and
The Palladium-Times Male Athlete of the Year honors, while also being named a finalist for All-CNY Large School Player of the Year. A two-time Salt City Athletic Conference Empire Division Player of the Year, Doty starred on the Nike EYBL circuit for the Albany City Rocks.
Doty broke both the single-season (566) and career (1,424) scoring records while leading the Red Dragons to their second straight Section III Semifinals appearance this past season. He averaged 28.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 3.1 steals his senior season at Fulton, while recording seven triple doubles and 10 30-plus point efforts, punctuated by a career-high 44-point performance. Doty played his junior year at Phelps School in Pennsylvania.
McNamara has also announced the addition of three new walk-ons – graduate transfer Luke Cecchi and freshmen Cooper Nadler and Chris Torres – increasing the Saints total number of newcomers to 12 for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
"I love the addition of Luke, Cooper, and Chris to our team," said McNamara. "All have a passion for the game, and a love for Siena College. These guys have a much bigger impact on the culture of a program than people realize, and all three will make a big difference."
A 6-2, 180-pound guard from Cazenovia, New York, Cecchi graduated from Thomas Aquinas College in Massachusetts this spring. He founded the school's only athletic program – men's basketball – and ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring this past season in the National Club Basketball Association, averaging 23.4 points while adding 8.7 rebounds and shooting 41% from three-point range. Cecchi played his high school basketball for Tyburn Academy, where he averaged 32.6 points and 11.2 rebounds while earning ESCAL All-Star Game MVP honors.
A 6-4, 195-pound guard from nearby Lake George, New York, Nadler led Glens Falls to the Section II Class A State Championship this past season. The Black Bears' lone senior and a four-year varsity player, he amassed 14 points and 20 rebounds in two state tournament victories.
A 6-2, 175-pound guard from Suffern, New York, Torres just completed a postgraduate year at Millbrook Prep where he earned All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention honors after leading the Mustangs in three-point percentage. A Lower Hudson Basketball Coaches Association All-Section 1 selection, he averaged 16.5 points and knocked down 41 threes while serving as team captain his senior year at Suffern.
