A four-year varsity cager from 1946-50, Boland was known for being quiet and unassuming but extremely capable, especially at driving lay-ups. A starter in his sophomore, junior and senior years, he served as a key operative who was more than pleased to pass-off to a teammate than score himself. During his first year on the varsity squad at the age of 23, he ranked 32nd nationally in foul shooting, hitting on 46 of 61 tries. He also scored 227 points in his junior year. Boland was part of the 1950 Siena squad that posted a 28-5 record, won the NCIT, ranked second nationally in defense and became Siena’s first ever team to play in Madison Square Garden. Boland later served as Chairman of the Siena College Board of Trustees. He died on April 17, 1994.
