Siena Athletics Hall of Fame
The winningest coach in program history, Ferris coached Siena lacrosse from 1966 to 1984 and held a record of 110-85 in those 19 seasons. Ferris turned in some of the greatest seasons in history when his team went undefeated (12-0 ) in 1979 and were 11-1 in 1981. In that span he coached the three-time NCAA Division I scoring champion, Tony Asterino ’81, HOF ‘86. In 1979, the best season in Siena College lacrosse history, Ferris' players were all over the national rankings: Asterino was No. 1 in the nation in total points scored; goalie Jay Runac was second in save percentage; Tom Baldwin ’81, HOF ‘92 finished sixth in goals scored and Steve O'Shea ’79, HOF ‘86 finished 10th in assists. Siena team season records set in 1979 include: most goals (182), most points (291) and most shots (600). Siena’s perfect mark in 1979 remains one of just 13 undefeated seasons in NCAA history. Ferris brought Siena Lacrosse into the Division I ranks, and coached a total of six fellow Siena Hall of Fame members (Asterino, Baldwin, Frank Bice ’82, HOF ’90; Bob Hutchinson ’83, HOF ’90; Mark Jenkins ’83, HOF ’90, and O’Shea). Ferris passed away on Oct. 2, 2024 at the age of 85.
