One of the most prolific runners in Siena history, Dalton capped off an amazing career at Siena by being named an All-American in 1980 by the Track & Field Association of America. Along the way, he won three individual titles at the New York State Collegiate Cross Country Championships from 1978-80, and competed individually at the NCAA Division I Championships in each of those years. Dalton finished 26th in a field of approximately 200 runners at the NCAA Championships in 1980 and was undefeated in 26 straight dual cross country meets over three years. He served as a team captain and was chosen as Siena’s most valuable runner in three straight years.
Dalton’s career in outdoor track was equally impressive. He won the NYSCT&FA 10,000 meter title in 1978, 1979 & 1980 and still holds the outdoor program record in the 10,000 to this day. Dalton also still holds the indoor mark in the 5,000 meter run, and set NYSCT&FA indoor records in both the 3,000 meter & 5,000 meter races. He was named an All-American in the 1980 for outdoor track, and placed sixth in the 10,000 meter run at the prestigious Penn Relays in 1980.
Dalton emerged as one of the area’s top adult runners following graduation, winning the Albany Corporate Challenge 14 times, the Troy Turkey Troy eight times and the Schenectady Stockade-a-thon seven times. A five-time USATF Masters Cross Country Runner of the Year, He was inducted as part of the second class of the Greater Capital Region Track, Field and Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2019. Dalton was selected to the USATF Masters Hall of Fame on December 5, 2020, and was enshrined in his high school's athletic hall of fame (Christian Brothers Academy - Syracuse) in November 2021.
