Starring at Siena from 1955-58, Obermayer was a 6-2 scoring forward and he did just that--score. During his sophomore year, he was third on the team in scoring. The following year, Obermayer stepped his game up to another level and led the team in scoring in the 1956-57 season, averaging 17.9 points in a 20-game season to collect the program's second-most points in a season (358) at the time. In doing so, he also tied a single game record for most free-throws made, when he hit 15 of 18 vs. St. Bonaventure. Following graduation, Obermayer went on to coach at the high school and little league levels and served as the chairperson of the Siena Basketball Invitational and the Siena College Annual Fund. He was awarded Siena’s Benjamin Kuhn Distinguished Alumni Award in 1978 and is also a member of the Columbia High School Alumni Hall of Fame. He died on August 8, 2009 at the age of 75.
