Siena Basketball’s all-time leading scorer to this day, Brown has gone down as arguably the most prolific scorer and passer in school history. Nicknamed “Showbiz”, he guided Siena to its first win in both the NIT (1988) and the NCAA Tournament (1989), highlighting one of the most successful four-year stretches in program history (89-34). A two-time All-American selection, Brown took home an Honorable Mention All-America nod from The Sporting News in 1989 and again from both the Associated Press and United Press International in 1991. He is one of only eight players in program history to have made three postseason appearances and played pivotal roles in Siena’s 1988 NIT win over Wake Forest and their 1989 North Atlantic Conference Championship run and landmark victory over Stanford in the NCAA Tournament (32 points).
The 1991 MAAC Player of the Year, Brown took home All-Conference honors in all four seasons of his career, including being named the 1988 NAC Rookie of the Year, a Second-Team nod that year, a First Team honor in 1989, and two more First Team All-MAAC accolades. He also was selected to a air of MAAC All-Tournament Teams and received various regional honors, including from the NABC (1988 District 2 Second Team), The USBWA (four-time District 2 selection), Eastern Basketball (three-time All-East), and Basketball Times (two-time All-East).
Playing alongside future fellow Siena Hall of Famers Steve McCoy (1987-89), Jeff Robinson (1987-89), Bruce Schroeder (1988-91), and Lee Matthews (1990-91), Brown turned Siena Basketball into a frequent national contender. The 1987-88 squad won the NCA Regular Season title and took home their first-ever win in the NIT, while the 1988-89 team won the NAC Tournament and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The 1990-91 team was named Co-Champions of the MAAC in just its second year of competition in the league and locked up two more NIT wins. Brown still holds multiple program MAAC Tournament, NIT, and NCAA Tournament single-game records from those performances.
Aside from being the program’s all-time leading scorer (2,284 points) for the past 30 years, Brown still holds multiple program career, season, and game records. He is one of only two Siena male hoopers and four men or women to eclipse the 2,000-point mark and remains the program leader in career scoring average (18.6), field goals made (650) and field goals attempted (1,766). Brown also owns the single-season program marks for field goals made and attempted, both set during the 1990-91 campaign. Brown was the team's leading scorer during the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.
After his illustrious collegiate career, Brown embarked on a 16-year professional basketball journey from 1991-20067 that took him to 6 different countries, beginning with Albany Patroons of the CBA. Following his retirement, be became the head coach at NCAA Division III New Jersey City University, where he continues to serve to this day. He has guided the team to one New Jersey Athletic Conference Title, an ECAC Metro Tournament Championship and a pair of NCAA Tournament Berths. He was named the NJAC and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers NIT/MBWA Coach of the year in 2013, and the D3hoops.com Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2011. Brown was selected to the Columbia High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017, in which he also received the Barry Kramer Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also enshrined in the MAAC Basketball Honor Roll in 2017.
