A star of his time, Charlie Murphy helped the Siena linksmen achieve unprecedented success during the late 1960’s. He won the Northeastern Collegiate Conference championship as a freshman and was a three-time MECAA Individual Medalist and ECAC Championship Qualifier in 1966. Murphy also helped the Saints capture the MECAA team title in 1967 and won the Capital City Tournament as a sophomore and the Middle Eastern College Athletic Association (MECAA) individual championship as a junior and senior. He was the captain of teams that won 14 and 15 matches his junior and senior years. The leading individual golfer during his tenure on the team, he helped the Indians post a perfect 8-0 mark during the 1966-67 campaign and set the generational standard for wins with an 11-1 record the following season. Murphy was also an individual qualifier for the NCAA Regional Tournament during his time in Loudonville.
