Brooks was the main cog in Siena’s fast-break style of basketball in the early 1970’s. When Brooks graduated, he had scored 1,315 points, placing him second on Siena's all-time career scoring list at the time. He established college seasonal records for most points scored with 522 points and field goals made with 208 that same year. His best individual performance was a 37-point outing against Sacred Heart College in 1974. He went on to earn All-Conference, All-ECAC and All-Region All-Star honors. Brooks went on to play on the Adirondack Region men’s open basketball team that won a gold medal and two silver medals in New York’s Empire State Games and was also a member of the semi-pro Utica Wreckers. He was inducted into the Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018 and is also a member of the Notre Dame High School (Utica, NY) Hall of Fame.
