One of the toughest and most durable performers ever to grace the floor of the Alumni Recreation Center, Steve McCoy personified what it was to be a Siena Indian. He first put on the Green and Gold as a freshman in November of 1985 and did not miss a game throughout his four-year career, establishing a then-Siena record for most consecutive games and starts with 117. He became the 15th player in Siena history to score 1,000 points and finished his career with 1,334 points. During McCoy's illustrious career, Siena won 86 games, including three 20-win seasons.

He made an immediate impact as a freshman, winning the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year during the 1985-86 campaign after averaging a team-best 8.6 rebounds along with 12.4 points per-game. He continued to impress beyond his first season and was named to the All-NAC Team in 1987, 1988 & 1989. The first player is school history to lead the team in rebounding in each of his four seasons, he graduated as the all-time boards leader at the time with 986. The most memorable rebound of his career came when he converted a board into the game-winning basket against Boston University on March 11, 1989, vaulting Siena into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
