Arguably the greatest stickman to don a Siena uniform, Asterino played from 1978-81 and graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer and assist-getter with 168 goals, 136 assists and 304 total points, an honor he still holds to this day. Named an All-American in 1981, he also became the first layer in program history to be selected to the North/South Senior All-Star Game that season. Asterino led the nation in scoring from 1979-81, putting up the program’s three best single season scoring outputs with 83, 89, and 90 points, respectively. His career scoring average of 6.47 points per-game is still an NCAA record. His offensive mastery was a main factor in the Indians putting together a perfect 12-0 mark during the 1979 season, one of only 13 undefeated seasons in NCAA history. Together with fellow Siena Hall of Famers Tom Baldwin ’81, HOF ’92 and Stephen O’Shea, ’79, HOF ’86, the trio combined to score 741 combined points and contribute to a four-year stretch where Siena went 41-4. Asterino also still holds the program single-game records for points (13), goals (10), and assists (12), the latter of which is tied for the NCAA record.
