Siena Athletics Hall of Fame
A four-year varsity member (1946-50) during Siena's basketball heyday, Northrup was a starter during his junior and senior years. He regularly jumped center for the team and was invaluable under the boards. His chief weapon was hook shot from the pivot, which allowed him to score 236 points in his senior year. The biggest performance of his career came at Madison Square Garden, when he led the Indians with 15 points and nearly as many rebounds in a 43-42 win over Manhattan. Northrup was part of the 1950 Siena squad that posted a 28-5 record, won the NCIT, ranked second nationally in defense and became Siena’s first ever team to play in Madison Square Garden. He became Siena’s first-ever NBA Draft pick, when he was selected by the Philadelphia Warriors in the 7th round (75th pick) of the 1950 NBA Draft. He is deceased.
