Siena Athletics Hall of Fame
Originally selected in the 6th round of the 1983 MLB Draft, Howard was the highest draft pick ever out of Siena but returned to Loudonville for his senior season. He played shortstop for four seasons and graduated as the top base stealer in program history at the time with 47 swipes. A member of the “100-Hit Club” with 119 total knocks, Howard also held a share of the record for most hits in a game (5) doubles in a game (3) and doubles in a season (32). In 1984, he was selected an Honorable-Mention Academic All-American. A 23rd round selection in 1984 by the Toronto Blue Jays, he played three seasons in the Toronto organization and spent one season, 1987, in the New York Yankees' organization as a member of the Albany-Colonie Yankees. His playing career, Howard became a professional baseball scout, and has been with the Baltimore Orioles since 1988. A two-time recipient of the Jim Russo (Baltimore Orioles) Scout of the Year award, he was inducted into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame in 2011. Howard was also inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.
