A former Syracuse Basketball star and captain who was a part of their team’s first NIT & NCAA Tournament squads, Peters came to Siena in 1948 and immediately made an impact. Leading the team to a 23-7 record that season, He would help Siena beat Le Moyne College with a desperation shot as time expired, winning the game, 41-39, at the Syracuse Colosseum. Legendary Siena head coach Dan Cunha described Peters as the team's "shot-in-the-arm". After just one season for the Indians which led to their first bid into the National Catholic Invitational Tournament, he was offered a contract to play with the NBA’s Syracuse Nationals, but declined to enter the business world. He would go on to become the first New York State Commissioner of Off Track Betting. He died on April 6, 2004, at the age of 79.
